Assignments
This course will have its major part in role playing with some
assignments to complete, some of them just roleplaying, some with
additional work. To grade every student must get at least 5 of 8
assignments completed, this must include the final task and the
characteristics (Assignments 7 and 8 must be done)
Lessons will be left open until end of term, so everyone will be able to
fulfil the tasks.

Lesson 1: Ministry Classification &
Flobberworms
(Theory + practical experience) |
|
In lesson one we will have a look at the
ministry system of classifying all magical creatures, judging
their dangerousity. The students will have to make a list of the
meaning of the signs (X - XXXXX) and find two creatures for each
category. The second half of this lesson we will work with
flobberworms, worm-creatures classified as X without special
powers. After a short information about them, every scholar will
try to feed them with salad, which they eat mostly. After
having done this, if still time is left, the students will draw
(only in rpg) the anatomy of the flobberworm which is more
complicated than everyone may think.
Assignment 1: Complete short homework about
classification (written homework)
Assignment 2: Succeed in feeding flobberworms (in class RPG) |
|
Lesson 2: The Augurey
(Theory + practical experience) |
|
The second lesson we will be spending
observing some Augureys, called sometimes the `Irish phoenix`.
If we are lucky, we will be able to hear their cries,
foretelling rain. The students will have the opportunity to see
an augureys tear-shaped nest and try out if their feathers are
really water-repellent. We will take some notes on augureys and
they will learn something about the augurey in myths.
Assignment 3: Observing an Augurey
and studying its behaviour (in class RPG and making notes on it) |
|
Lesson 3: The Bowtruckle
(Theory + practical experience) |
|
In lesson three we will turn to the Bowtruckle.
We will try to feed them with wood lice so we can draw their
anatomy. Then we will take some notes on Bowtruckles in general.
Assignment 4: Drawing the anatomy of a bowtruckle (only RP) |
|
Lesson 4: The Clabbert
(Theory + practical experience) |
|
We will look first at the history and the
general behaviour of the clabbert and make some notes on it,
then we will turn to the creature itself. The students will have
to pair up and try out, what Clabberts eat. Maybe they will be
able to observe how the pustule on their head glows when they
feel in danger.
Assignment 5: Pair up and try out, what Clabberts eat (RP) |
|
Lesson 5: The gnome
(Theory + practical experience) |
|
This lesson we will spend with the gnomes.
First we will look at some general information about this widely
known garden pest, then we will have some hands-on experience
with them. We will try out how good they can smell by doing a
simple experiment.
Assignment 6: Doing the experiment (RP) |
|
Lesson 6: Final |
|
In this final lesson the students will have to
prove what they learnt. The final will include some theory
questions and a practical task. More will not be laid open until
it is time for the finals.
Assignment 7: Participating in the finals and manage the tasks.
Assignment 8: Post some short characteristics about every
creature as notes (can be done during the whole term) |
|
